Pop Music Gossip – Is It Helpful or Harmful?

We have all seen the mags at store checkouts that focus on celebrity gossip. Many individuals have an issue with these magazines as they think the stories are usually made up. Others disagree strongly with this viewpoint. Celebrity gossip, as a entire, is not necessarily a bad thing. It gives everyday Americans something to target aside from their own life, and it points out that nobody\’s life is perfect. A simple two line sentence in a mag or on a TV show can invoke significant changes that are of benefit to many.

Celebrity gossip can say issues in America that have to be addressed. During the last few years, we have seen a few articles about drug and alcohol use among teen and pop music stars. Alcohol and drug abuse is an issue with today\’s youth and, by featuring it on magazine covers and TV programs, it would open up a chat between adults and children on the dangers related to use.

Pregnant celebrity youths, for example Jamie Lynn Spears and Bristol Palin, might also provoke conversations about birth control and avoidance. In addition, the public split of Bristol and her child\’s pa shows kids that having a baby can cause damage to a relationship instead of helping it. We have seen such stories as the Octomom and Kate and John and 8 which mention inadequacies in our fertility treatment programs. They\’re now under more scrutiny due to gossip.

Another area in which celebrity gossip can have a constructive effect involves the snappers. We have all seen the pictures and heard the stories of famous people punching a photographer or stomping on his camera. Older US people remember the death of Princess Diana while younger Americans lately saw a situation in which Brad Pitt was being stalked by paparazzi. Major situations such as this cause changes to laws that make all American citizens safer.

One area in which celebrity gossip is vital is charity. Many stars have taken to auctioning off items to benefit charity and gossip helps to spread the word. When a major star auctions off his or her memorabilia to benefit charity, the world may not know about it. Yet, when a gossip journalist mentions it, the event becomes well-known. People start talking and the gossip generates more interest which in turns brings in more sales and more money for the charity. This is of significant benefit in these trying times.
