4 Funny And Interesting Gifts And How They Made Great Secret Santa Gifts

One thing that everyone is experience in one way or another is Secret Santa. It may be for work, church, or a social or family event. However, the challenge is still the same. You have to buy a gift with no idea of who is finally going to get the gift. This is something that I and my family recent had to do for our Church Christmas dinner. We were having a white elephant gift exchange. Our pastor gave the limit at $5 to $10 dollars for the gifts. The tricky part is that you don’t know who you are buying for but you still want to get an interesting gift that can add to the fun and excitement of the game especially when the rules involve stealing the other players’ presents. How to pick the perfect gift is not an exact science and there can be some interesting surprises. Here are some of the big gifts that were popular at our gift exchange. They may give an idea of what will be a good pick for your own Secret Santa event.

The most surprising one was a pair of Grinch boxers in a special Grinch holiday tin. You can well imagine the highly volatile mix of men’s undergarments and a church function. It was hilarious and the most interesting part is that it was one of the most stolen gifts during the exchange. It didn’t end up with the person you would expect either. However the interesting nature of the underwear made them a hit.

Another greatly sought after gift was a nice metal clock. This one proved to be one of the favorites for the women. I guess every lady would like a nice clock to adorn their home. It made me realize that a useful home decoration can be a great gift at the right time and situation. It seems sometimes people are looking for that something extra to pull the look of a room in their home together. So don’t underestimate these types of gifts.

The foot massager was a really popular item and was the subject of some spectacular steals during the gift exchange. Even I was eyeing but I already knew the ensuing warfare that would result from being the first person to steal it. So I got something more practical. The best gift steal was between the pregnant wife of our worship minister and one of the ladies in our church. The massager had stayed put after the worship minister’s wife had taken it since everyone knew she was close to term and staying on her feet was likely a trial at this point. The older lady state that she had already been through 2 pregnancies so it was no big deal. This had everyone in the church gasping desperately with laughter.

The two gifts that made the funniest exchanges were a grater and a beard trimming kit. I had chosen the cheese grater and I wanted the trimmer which a previous player had chosen. What made the exchange so funny was everyone knew that the gentleman who had the trimmer preferred it to the grater. I sadly miscalculated the popularity of the trimmer and it ended up passing from my hands to several other players. Luckily I got the gift that was my second choice an automatic coin bank.

Something fun and special you can do for your kids this Christmas is have them get in the mail a special letter from Santa. The letter can be ordered online and can be customized and have a special Santa signature and North Pole Postmark.

4 Inexpensive And Original Ways To Decorate Your Home For Xmas

The holiday season is in full swing but you want to something spectacular for your holiday decorations. You may want to outdo your neighbor or enter a neighborhood competition. I think that this can be a great way to promote the Christmas spirit and you can have fun while doing it. However you may be daunted by how elaborate some peoples decorations can get. You may believe that it involves more money than you can afford. Fortunately you can do lot on a budget and still impress the neighborhood. Here are some tips for how to do just that.

Know where to shop. You can find great outdoor decorations at surprising places. For example I saw an advertisement from Walgreen’s and some other drug stores for some very beautiful lawn Christmas light decorations for only 10 or 15 dollars. This is great for the person who is worried that they will have to spend a lot. Looking for deals like this will allow you to decorate to your heart’s content without feeling like your spent all your money.

Choose a simple theme for your decorations and start finding decorations that can fit the theme. Even with a budget you can find many lawn ornaments for a Nativity Scene or winter wonderland. The more lights you add the more spectacular it will look at night when everything is turned on. But be warned, it will increase your electric bill. One good idea would be to power your display for a shorter amount of time. Rather than all night leave it on from 5to 9. That will give enough people the chance to see it. Another great idea is to also try to rent a generator. That way you can keep your electric bill lower than powering it directly from your home.

Try going Dutch with your neighbors. While you may not be able to a splendid display by yourself, your entire neighborhood can choose a free spot and donate decorations to make an amazing display that can be the talk of the town. The best part is that everyone saves money in the process and gets maximum value for their purchases. Have the neighborhood come together and decide what them and what decoration to donate from personal collections or buy.

Go green with your decoration choices. Buying lawn decorations that use Christmas lights can be a strain on your electric bill especially if you will have them on until New Year’s. A great idea is to find energy efficient decorations that can save you more money and energy. Not only will you be doing something to promote conservation, you will likely make back the extra money you spent this Christmas and many others to come.

Don’t keep decorations out to long. Why have the lights on after Christmas? Why even have them one as early as the end of November? Shorten the time and try to find a period during December where they will have the most impact or decorate for a specific reason such as a contest. This will help you save money and get the best use out of your decorations.

Something special you can do for your kids is to have them get a call from Santa. You can order the call online and have them customized for each child. It will be a memorable and magical event for the Christmas holiday.

4 Well Known Toys And The Astoundingly Low Prices That Will Make Parents Smile

One thing I realized while doing gift shopping is for the parent wanting to really save money that it would not be really hard to do so this holiday season. I was in the middle of doing shopping for something else when I saw that the store I was at, Marshall’s, had set up a toy section for Christmas. Now those of you who know about the store know that you can find name brand stuff from other retailers at very good discounts. I came face to face with a lot of name brand toys that would normally be $20 to $30 that were being sold for $5, $7, $10, and $15. These were toys that any child would be happy to have at mere pennies on the dollar. Here some of the toys that I found.

Transformers as I mentions in another article are very popular right now and many new models have been made based on characters from the recent movie that came out last summer, Transformers 2: Rise of the Fallen. These were highly articulated transforming vehicles and many were main characters. I saw an Optimus Prime, Ratchet, and Megatron all for under $10. I was amazed since most of my research has pointed to these toys being some of the bestselling items for the season. So pay attention to the prices at Wal-Mart, Toys R’ Us and other retailers

Barbie was another interesting choice. I always knew that there were two types of Barbies. There was the cheap one that any little girl could get and the more elaborate and expensive ones. These are normally the special edition ones for movies or come with a specific set and other accessories. I saw some really good ones all for under $10. I saw a Hanna Montana doll, Princess Belle Barbie, and some of the more popular Barbie brands. I then realized the phenomenal drop in toy prices was across the board. Of course you will still be paying extra for dolls with a set, but it won’t be by much. The highest I was $25. I am sure your little girl will feel more than satisfied with both a doll and accessories.

Another interesting trend was how cheap remote control cars have become. It used to be when I was a kid that the cheapest remote control care would $40 to $50; however, I seeing remote control cars of high end vehicles for only $7 and $9 dollars. I realized that the technology had become more common and the recessionary forces combined to make these really affordable. For the young car aficionado this would be a great toy pick.

The last interesting pick was the cheapest. Small toy cars and trucks are now a staple of stores. However for their size these toys are being designed to do more and more. I found a toy truck for only $4 that made different vehicle noises. It also had pull back mechanics so that you can wind up the truck and it would propel itself. This would be a great suggestion for stocking stuffers.

Something great and magical that you can do for your children this holiday season is to have your kids get special letters from Santa. You can order them online and customize them specifically for each of your children depending on if they are celebrating an important occasion or to cheer them up. It will be another way to make Christmas unforgettable.

4 Amazing Suggestions For Finding Great Holiday Presents For Your Children

December 16, 2009 by Ellie Evergreen

This Christmas, many people are out shopping for the perfect present for their loved ones. This is often a trying experience as you can never be quite sure that the gift you purchase is the one that your friend or family actually wanted. So what is a person to do? This doesn’t have easy answers and many people have come up with their own suggestions. However most of them fall into the same categories. I’ll try to mention some of them and hopefully they will help guide your holiday shopping this holiday season.

The first general approach is simply to ask. This can be interpreted different ways for different people. In most cases hearing directly from the person what they want will guarantee the gift choice will be perfect and exactly what they wanted. However the downside is that there is a risk that the element of surprise is diminished. So another approach is to find out in a roundabout way. This is tricky because it requires you to have really great observation and listening skills. Otherwise the result will be that you mishear what the person wants and your gifts are returned after the holiday season. Either way it depends on how well you know the person. It is generally easier to buy something for a loved one or close friend than for someone you just have a passing acquaintance with.

The next approach is to look at the latest trends. There are certain items that everyone wants to get either to be considered trendy or simply because they are just that good. So a good idea is to look for items that are new innovations on previous products. Merchandise of popular celebrities and entertainers is another great option to look at. The most important thing to realize however is that what is trendy is not always immediately obvious. Sometimes an item that you would not have looked twice at yourself will become the hottest thing since sliced bread. This makes it important to pay attention to the news and other publications so that you can get the first scoop on such developments.

Go for the classics or goods that are perennial favorites. There are some gifts that are so great and popular that they pop up every year. In the past you would have to look them up in consumer guides and similar publications. However the internet and the growing popularity of online shopping makes doing this research a lot easier than in the past. For example on Amazon.com, many categories of items are ranked according to which item is selling the most. Looking at lists like this will allow you to find quickly the items that are the most popular for their given category.

For your children simply pay attention to the commercials that come on during their favorite shows and the things they put down in their holiday wish list. This will make your choices for their presents that much accurate. A commercial will often shape what they want in some way or another. Also the wish list is the simplest and most direct way to find out what your kids want without being too obvious about it.

Something special you can do for your kids this holiday season is to have them receive a letter from Santa. This will surely make their Christmas all the more special.

3 Excellent Tip For Decorating and Designing Your Own Nature Christmas Tree

December 16, 2009 by Ellie Evergreen

This holiday season everyone knows that the holiday is just not the same without a gorgeous and beautiful Christmas tree. The tree is one of the most recognizable symbols of Christmas along with Santa and Baby Jesus. So it only makes sense not only for a family to get one but to decorate it in style. However something as personal as a decorating your tree does not have any set formula. There are various ways to do it. The most important is to find the idea that your family likes the best. If you family is feeling like doing something different this holiday season, here are some different decoration ideas that you can try out. You may find one that will absolutely love.

One great tree idea is the nature theme. You may be bringing you holiday tree indoors but you can decorate your tree with nature themed ornaments. This gives you the chance to bring the outdoors into your home. There are various types of decorations that you can use. You can use decorated pinecones. These are great because you can still find them outside at this time of year. You can then decorate them with some glitter, sequins or paint and then you will have some pretty amazing tree decorations. Bird shaped tree ornament are another interesting decoration. You can find some great ones at reasonable costs at stores like Dollar General or Wal-Mart. The will add a certain bit of life to the nature look of your tree. You can also try using ornamental holiday berries and greenery in the place of your tinsel. Of course you need to make sure that the berries are bright and visible in order for the effect to work. In the end the goal is not to perfectly replicate nature but to create an idealized holiday version that will be a lovely addition to your Christmas Decorations

The Candy theme is another fun theme you can try. It will require some imagination, candy, and also a good eye for unique tree ornaments when you shop for your decorations. To start of you will likely decorate the tree in pretty much the same manner as it is traditionally done. However you will add candy accents where possible. A great candy to use as decorations on your Christmas tree is candy canes. They are the penultimate holiday candy and their shape makes them very simple to hang on your tree. Another great candy idea is large lollipops. The rest is up to your imagination and fancy. Try to look for eye-catching and interesting candies to decorate the tree. The best part is that the kids can enjoy some the decoration after Christmas.

Something that some families do is going for a more contemporary look. This is using a tree and decorations that reinterpret in a different way the traditional Christmas tree is decorated. This can be different things. One example is using a white Christmas tree and using blue Christmas lights. This can be a dazzling addition to your holiday decorations but try to avoid choosing a tree and decorations that will mess up the homey holiday look. It will simply look weird and out of place.

Something special you can include with the presents under the tree this Christmas is special personalized letters from Santa. These will be perfect for families where the children sent a letter to the North Pole. Hopefully you have saved a copy so you can craft the perfect reply. If you need help there are some great online stores that do the service for you at a reasonable cost.

We often think about gifts for the kids during the Christmas season, but what about the women? They often are the ones that help organize the home for the holiday season and make the memorable holiday treats. This is not to mention all that they do during the rest of year taking care of your children, going to teacher conference, keeping the home cleaning, helping to balance the house accounts, and still managing to get a delicious meal on the table at the end of the day. Get her perfume. Other than make up, this is nearest to a lady’s heart. Try to get some of your wife or mother’s favorite fragrance. This will be sure to brighten her holiday season. To increase the impact of the gift get the gift set. First you will save money especially as retailers are cutting prices to get rid of extra stock and increase sales. The second reason is that you get more items than just buying the fragrance alone. You can get a body wash, lotion, as well a decent size bottle of perfume. The woman in your life will love you all the more for this great gift options and you will be patting your back for the great deal you found.

Make up is another great gift choice. Most women love to look their best, but sometimes the items that are sold at grocery stores and drugstores will not do the trick. So it makes sense to get some of the high quality items. The best place to go is to the mall or to outlet stores. These will give you really great discounts this holiday season. Once again getting the gift set just makes sense. You will be able to get all the items your special lady needs and save money in the process. It would also be a good idea to know what brand she uses so you get the one that is best suited to her.

Cooking utensils are another great idea. However, this is more for the woman you know loves to cook. Every cook has items on their wish list that they want so that they can cook more easily and with less fuss. Try going to the home department of your favorite retail or outlet store. This holiday season you should be able to find some phenomenal savings on great and durable products. You can also get some decorative items for the kitchens such towels and oven mitts. They will have a high rate of success especially since they are useful items.

The woman in your life may not be a good cook but she may have a great career. Show your support for her professional endeavors by getting her a great office gift. This can be anything from a desk organizer to high quality pens. You can find these at your local office store, online, or at a local retailer. This is a great way to say you care and show your love and support and give your spouse, relative, or girlfriend something she can use to grace her desk and help get work done.

5 Vital Things To Be Aware When Going Out For Winter Holiday Fun

December 16, 2009 by Ellie Evergreen

One activity that many families who are getting a white Christmas this year will do is go out to play in the snow. It is a great idea to have fun but it also makes good sense that everyone takes precautions to avoid injury and accidents while they play. As a parent you want to know that when you children go out that they are safe enough that you don’t have to worry and everyone can enjoy the snow. So here are some important tips for the winter newbie so that you and your family can stay safe this holiday season when you go out.

Check for black ice and areas that can be slippery during cold weather. Even in areas that won’t get any snow this season there will be temperatures that are cold enough to form ice especially after some precipitation. Take all precautions to avoid slipping accidents including being more careful on sidewalks and other surface that can ice over. It is even more important to be careful there because kids being more comfortable at home won’t be as aware of possible danger.

The next thing to do is to make sure that everyone is properly dressed for staying outside. If you are going somewhere away from home like the park makes sure that everyone is dressed for the time you are going out. It will not only make everyone more comfortable while outside but avoid possible dangers like frostbite.

The best piece of advice is to pay attention to weather forecast. Even if it has stopped snowing you should pay attention to information such as wind chill factor. This is important information to know especially when the effects can be up to 10 degrees colder than the actual temperature. This is just asking for common cold weather dangers such as hypothermia or frostbite.

Also make sure to have something to warm everyone up. If you are away at the park sledding and doing other activities make sure you come prepared with warm drinks and make your family go the car and warm about every 15 to 30 minutes. You don’t anyone to be exposed to the weather for too long. Also if you are away try to set a limit for how long you are out. Normally 1 to 2 hours should be a reasonable time frame.

If you are skating, it always safer to go to an ice rink but if you are still determined to skate on a frozen pond or lake you should take the necessary precautions. Check with local authorities to find out if the skating location was declared safe enough to use. Try to avoid remote skating locations. You don’t want to test the unknown and be too far from help if trouble occurs. Also think of bringing some simple rescue gear like some rope and extra blankets. Being prepared for an emergency will likely save the life of your child or loved on if they fall through.

Something special you can do for the holidays is for your kids to receive a personalized Santa letter. They get a reply from Santa to their letter and get the magical experience of getting a genuine letter from the North Pole. You can find some great vendors online who can do the service for a very affordable price

4 New Pitfalls And Opportunities You need to Know About Holiday Online Shopping

December 16, 2009 by Ellie Evergreen

Online shopping is fast becoming a huge part of retail purchases. This is happening for many reasons. First there are more people who are finding the convenience of selection and comparison that the internet provides. There is also the fact that retailers are starting to pay attention to the trends and know that the internet is increasingly being used by their customers for a wide amount of activities. This is driving many retailers to offer more deals and savings on items sold online to lure new customers to their products. As you shop this holiday season for your loved one this gives you a great opportunity to find great gifts at affordable prices. At the same time you have to be aware that buying online is completely different from traditional shopping. Here are some key things you should be aware of for this holiday shopping season.

One thing to be aware of is that Black Friday is no longer the only shopping day you need to look for. From now on you can also look forward to a Cyber Monday. Unfortunately for those of you that were not aware of this it has already come and gone, but it is a new holiday shopping benchmark you should be looking for next year. In any case most retailers that have an online store will offer great discounts such as free shipping and price cuts on hot ticket items. Also if you are want to find great deals on electronics this would be a great time to find them online.

Take every opportunity between now and Christmas of all sales and discounts. Many analysts who are knowledgeable about the shopping season are predicting that the normal after holiday sales and discounts will not be as great or numerous as in previous years. This is because recession wary companies reduced their inventories in anticipation of weak sales. At this point there is no certainty about how holiday sales will play out so if you see a deal that you can afford it would be a great idea to go for it.

Something else to take advantage of is rebates and coupons. Some discounts are not going to be broadly advertised. To get extra bang for your buck it would be a good idea to look online and in published adverts for these coupons. Some of them can be combined with existing sales for even great saving that will be of benefit to you as you do your purchases.

Another thing that you can do is to look at some of the cheaper toys that are on the market right now when shopping for your kids. The obvious hot toys are not so hot this year and there are some surprise hits that are quite affordable if you are smart enough to look for them. Case in point is Zhu Zhu pets these toys only cost $10 with tax but they are as hot as Tickle Me Elmo. Now the company is struggling to meet demand and customers can’t find it in stores. So keep your eye out for these deals.

Something you could do for your kids this Christmas is to give them a letter from Santa. You can order it online through certain vendors, customize it and have it sent to your home in time for Christmas Day. Your kids will be thrilled to get a special reply from Santa to their own North Pole letter.

4 Special Ways To Make Holiday Memories With Friends And Family

December 14, 2009 by Ellie Evergreen

The holiday season is a special time of year that every family uses to come together and spend time together that is often not possible during the regular year. There are many things that can be done to maximize this time and make unforgettable. This is something that doesn’t have to cost much money or extensive planning. These are just simple ways to make the holidays a little more special and brighter. Hopefully there some suggestions that you can use immediately as the holiday season progresses.

Get together with neighbors and plan a holiday event. We all know about neighborhood block parties or picnics. However how often do you take time to hang out with your neighbors and get to know them beyond hi and good morning? So use this opportunity to get to know your neighbors and have a great time. It can be a holiday party at the community center or a marshmallow roast.

Find activities to do with your church or local civic organization. The same reasoning as with your neighbors works with your church as well. Besides this is one of the big events for them. Try to be a part of what your church is planning. It can be a holiday musical, play, or Christmas dinner. You will have the double benefit of contributing to your community and enjoying the company of your church family. You will find it to be a fun and satisfying experience for everyone involved.

Make decorating your home for the holidays a family event. You can have everyone help with putting up the tree, decorating the halls and living room, putting up light on the outside of house and ornaments on the front lawn. You don’t have to spend much. You just need to find something everyone in your family will do. You not only make your home beautiful in time for the holidays, you also have the opportunity to have everyone do something that they are proud of.

Have a holiday meal together. In my family the holiday meal isn’t a formal event. Everyone just gets together makes the different dishes and on the big day and sits down to enjoy it after giving thanks. It doesn’t even have to be a dinner meal. It can be a holiday breakfast or a late lunch. Just the fact of sitting down and enjoying a meal together is enough.

Make Christmas Day an event that involves more than opening presents. One of the suggestions I have already mentioned is having a big meal. Of course, you can also try going to a Christmas Day service. Try to pack the day with activities like a game event or movie marathon. This will make the event one that is more satisfying and enjoyable for everyone involved. The point is to make as many great memories on this day as possible. Also don’t forget to take a lot of pictures and video to commemorate the event.

Something special you can do for your younger children is to have them get a call from Santa. There are many online services that can do it for a reasonable price. You choose the greeting and the contents of the conversation. You can even have a live Santa call to make the experience more real. It will help reaffirm your children’s faith in wonder of Christmas and make a great family memory.

4 Suggestions For Helping Your Kids Believe Santa is Real And Have A Magical Christmas

December 14, 2009 by Ellie Evergreen

This Holiday season every parent whose household celebrates Christmas wants to bring the magic of the holidays to their children. They want them to see something extraordinary in the season that will make their lives just a little more interesting and exciting. The most obvious is to make it possible for them to have an encounter with Santa Claus. This can vary from family to family. In some households Dad, likely wears a Santa Suit. In others its traditions like milk and cookies. However kids are now much smarter and skeptical than past generations so it takes more imagination and ingenuity to get them to believe in Santa.

One thing that you can do is leave evidence of Santa’s passing. This goes beyond leaving milk and cookies for Santa. You need to make it look like he actually came and stopped by. So try to think like you are making a crime scene. If Santa and one of his reindeer or elves snuck into your home what would be some of the tell tale signs? This is the best way to plan your Santa evidence. It can be different things depending on your home. It is easiest for households that have a working fireplace. It can be as simple as having soot foot prints in front of the fire place and a set of old fashioned spectacles. Of course the most important thing is to make sure that the “evidence” can be cleaned up afterward.

A great idea for convincing your kids Santa exists is to arrange for them to receive a letter from Santa. There are several options that you can use. However keep in mind that public programs like the one by Postal Service have had some hiccups so you should probably arrange for the reply to your kid’s letters. One great option is to order the letters online. You can choose from a wide selection of templates and customize the letter so it is a perfect a reply to your children’s letters to the North Pole.

If you live in an apartment your kids may not be able to get over the fact that you don’t have a fireplace. A great idea is to leave interesting evidence that suggests Santa has more abilities than previously thought. A great idea is to leave a key and glove or footprints leading from a window or door. The best part is that you let your children draw their own conclusions using their own investigative skills.

Then if this is not enough to convince your child then have them have a special phone call from Santa! This is one of the best ideas as it will be hard for them to accuse you of being Santa as you will be right next to them. It would be a good idea to order the call through a service since your child will likely recognize the voice of a relative or family member.

You can also try having Santa come in person. The important thing to do with this is to have whoever you hire to be your Santa to give each child a special gift. This will not only allow them to have a memento but they will also have an unforgettable Christmas memory that they will keep with them for the rest of their lives.
