You don\’t need to fully adapt to a New Age lifestyle to get the benefits from using regular meditation. It is something that is easy to do and if done regularly can positively affect your mental and physical health. There are many different meditation methods, so finding ones that work for you may just take a little research.
Meditation has been used by many different cultures. Some are more basic and are easier to learn. Others take more time and practice to master. Each of the methods is designed to clear your mind and enable you to increase your concentration. Some actually allow you to work through problems or issues in an intuitive way. You may find that meditating on an issue may help you to come up with a unique solution to problems which are confronting you.
If you are going to be meditating, you need to find a quiet area that is free of distractions. In the beginning, this is critical. You are still learning how to concentrate and distractions can cause you serious problems. You may find that if you always use the same area, it can actually help to enhance the meditative state you are in. You will begin to associate one set area with meditation and this can be a powerful meditative tool in and of itself.
If you have already heard of meditation techniques, there are a few that you may have found are referred to again and again. Three of these include Buddhist meditation, Zen meditation and transcendental meditation. In fact, Buddhist and Zen meditations are often tied together and referred to as Zen Buddhist meditation.
With Buddhist and Zen meditation, it is the breath that is the primary focus. The feel of your breath entering and leaving your body and the way it feels when it fills your lungs. You do not let your mind drift. It remains on the thoughts and sensations of your breath and ties you to your body. With Zen meditation however you also introduce a specific thought that you concentrate on as well. It may be something as profound as \”what is the sound of one hand clapping\”. In Zen meditation, this thought is called a koan. Transcendental meditation uses a sound or word such as \”ohm\” or \”ahh\” in order to provide a mental focus. Breathing is important but concentration is focused on the sound you are making.
If you are interested in learning more about meditation methods there are a number of excellent websites which can give you information and resources. These can help you expand and enrich your meditative practice. You may be amazed at how profoundly a good meditation practice can improve your life.

Sleeplessness and Anxiety

You have been tossing and turning all night. You want to get a decent night\’s sleep but it has proven to be completely elusive. This is not something that has just occurred out of the blue. Your sleep disturbances have been occurring for months now. Come to think of it, you have experienced these same problems in the past for several years. What is the cause of it? If you are like many people, the root cause of your sleeplessness could be anxiety.
How can this be possible? Well, if you are worrying about your job, finances, or personal life to the point a good night\’s sleep is impossible, then you may be suffering from an anxiety induced sleep disturbance. And, no, this is not a minor problem. If you are unable to get a decent night\’s rest, there can be many ripple effects that you must contend with in the rest of your life.
Imagine not having a decent night\’s sleep in over two weeks. Would you think you would be effective on the job? More than likely, such problems could completely undermine your standing at work. Your home life could also be seriously affected as well. Excess tension and irritability can undermine your relationships with friends and family. That is why it is important to deal with the situation with the obvious intention of reversing its impact.
Although it\’s a well known fact that anxiety can often lead to sleepless nights, many people still fail to understand how and why this happens. The reason why anxiety is often accompanied by insomnia is largely due to hyperactivity and restlessness. When you experience disturbing anxiety related thoughts together mental uneasiness, it can become near impossible for you to calm down, and this of course results in insomnia.
There are many ways one can reduce anxiety so as to eliminate sleeplessness. Without a doubt, one of the most important things to do is not ingest anything that will contribute to anxiety. For example, it is critically important to avoid caffeine or other stimulants if you are having trouble sleeping. This is because they are known to heighten and contribute to anxiety. Hence, they are best avoided.
Physical exercise should be on a regular basis as anxiety is known to be connected with pent up tension. When exercising you can alleviate this tension and rid the body of it by using it as energy. Much the same as you burn calories you can burn tension.
Engaging in deep breathing exercises is also helpful. Gaining control of your breathing will contribute greatly to reducing anxiety. This is because deep breathing will slow your respiration and your heart rate. This, in turn, will have a calming effect. That will eventually help restore your normal sleeping patterns.
A very serious problem, anxiety is bad enough by itself. But when you add sleeplessness the problems are even more serious. But there are ways, thank goodness, that you can lessen these symptoms. This allows hope that you will once again take control of your life.

Understanding How Manifestation Meditation Works
December 13, 2009 by Trevor Johnson

There is no one I’ve come across who never talks about what they wish they could achieve. For the most part people talk about success and their actions are targeted towards that in whatever way possible. But this is not enough sometimes if the cards you were dealt make it more difficult to attain goals. Nevertheless, manifestation meditation is a new way of achieving success.
Inasmuch as it is good to multi-task the brain gets easily confused with random thoughts. There is something about so many tasks that gets the mind unable to process all of them adequately. This phase of manifestation meditation is all about making your mind know what you wish for in a simplified manner.
Manifestation meditation cannot be carried out randomly; there are steps that should be followed if anything tangible is going to come out of it. The very first thing you must do is think hard about what you want from life. Go to a quiet place where you won’t e disturbed by noise or irritating personalities. Once you have found a place you can then reflect on your life and make sure that you are sure minded about what you want. Write this down and make sure you pin up the piece of paper on the walls of your room.
Manifestation meditation is about concentrating a dominant thought in your mind and becoming one with it. Sit down again in a quiet area and just relax. This calming down has an effect of consolidating your dreams and laying them down in the proper format for your mind to absorb. In addition to this you can combine your vision of success with an image that fills you with compassion, the energy is said to be a powerful ingredient to the success you want.
While in this meditative state you should imagine your success. When you do this be sure to focus on that alone and remove any distracting thoughts that will drag you off course. Picture your success to intricate detail in your mind and hold that image for the entire duration of your meditative cycle.
To make the meditation more powerful you should clip out pictures associated with your vision of success. Cut out pictures of the car you want and attach them to your piece of paper. Another thing is that you must focus on your imagined success throughout your day as you take the necessary steps that will help you achieve your success.

Why You Will Be Glad You Take On Kriya Yoga
December 12, 2009 by Oke Manueli

Kriya yoga is a mix of Karma, Jnana and Bhakti yoga styles combined in a very complex form. The word kriya means to make an effort or to transform. Kriya yoga was introduced to the modern world by master Lahiri Mahasaya during the 19th century. Nevertheless, Kriya yoga is, according to some scriptures, much older than that.
It is said to appear in the Bhagavad-Gita a document considered to be more than 3000 years old. Devotion to God, self-discipline of the body and mind as well as a strict daily program represent the main principles for Kryia yoga practice. In order for a student to learn how to do this technique, the presence of a guru is a must-meet condition.
Kriya yoga has changed the existence of people in search of a deeper, more spiritual relationship with their essence. This style of yoga is kundalini oriented and, it involves a meditation technique theorized by a series of esoteric principles. Nevertheless, it also preaches the fact that one’s power lies outside of oneself, that one needs a guru, or master, to access this innate spiritual life. There are several aims in Kriya yoga, among which the breaking of the separation line between mind and body.
The three yoga styles at the base of Kriya yoga are very important for its understanding. Thus, Karma yoga insists on the movement of the soul the inner and the outer mind dimension; Jnana yoga aims at conquering wisdom, allowing the mind to be free, while Bhakti yoga focuses on love, and how it can bring peace to one’s world. The combination of these three principles aims at purifying the mind and the soul. As a result, Kriya yoga practitioners believe they can achieve self-fulfillment through Kriya routine rather than by other disciplines.
There are some stages to go through before practicing Kriya yoga. First of all, the body has to be ready, and Hatha yoga exercises are integrated in the practice for this very purpose. Then, one has to prepare the mind. Mantras are taught in Kriya yoga techniques so as to enhance the meditative experience. One of the stanzas in the Bhagavad-Gita states the fact that the goal of one who practices Kriya yoga is to accomplish the Supreme Goal (Samahdi), by leaving the external world with its fears, angers and desires out and by controlling the intellect and the sensory mind.

Understanding Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
December 8, 2009 by Gordon Dalwood

There seems to be a number of prevalent myths surrounding the condition of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Many of these myths center on the notion that GAD is not a serious condition and that most people who suffer from it are weak minded. While such stereotypical notions are common, they are not even remotely accurate in terms of their ability to properly diagnose such a condition. GAD is far from a minor psychological hang up. It is a serious debilitating condition that affects millions of people.
Essentially, GAD is a form of anxiety which manifests itself primarily as worry and nervousness, and in most cases it is known to be chronic. Sufferers experience frequent bouts of nervousness, fear and even paranoia with regards to various aspects of their lives, whether it’s about personal matters, their career, their family or of course, their financial position. However, it’s only when a person experiences these symptoms for at least six months that they are then considered to be suffering from GAD.
Additionally, people suffering from GAD tend to suffer from a variety of symptoms, such as drowsiness, forgetfulness, irritability, lack of energy, insomnia, as well as a host of other issues. Furthermore, with so much anxiety playing on a person’s mind, this psychological problem soon starts to manifest in physical ways. When the condition reaches this stage, the effects make it virtually impossible for a person to lead a normal day to day life.
In certain instances, sufferers of GAD may also experience symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. These could for example include flashbacks of traumatic, anxiety inducing events. These flashbacks can have a tremendous impact on the quality of a person’s life, and often leads to living a life far less enjoyable than one would lead if you weren’t suffering from GAD. Therefore, seeking professional treatment for GAD is vital.
The primary step in treatment focuses on receiving a proper analysis. Such an analysis is carried out by a psychiatrist by means of a series of tests. Once the psychiatrist has made a proper diagnosis, they will move on to the next treatment. In many cases this usually involves being given prescriptions for anti-anxiety medication in order to control the problem.
Some patients will recover just fine simply by using the anti-anxiety prescriptions. There will be those, however, that prefer to meet with a therapist and discuss counseling options to reduce the onset of GAD. For many, the mix of prescription medication and therapy work quite well.
Changes in lifestyle should not be underestimated when it comes to the reduction in anxiety. There are sports, hobbies and change of diet which have shown good results when it comes to relieving GAD. These are a valuable tool for relieving symptoms for many people.
It is also important to avoid listening to those individuals that downplay the seriousness of GAD. When advice and opinions are not coming from a knowledgeable source, it is best to dismiss the opinions. They simply are not helpful and they certainly will not play a role in alleviating your condition. Once again, their opinions are based on myths and hold little value. Stick with listening to the advice of professionals. They know what they are doing.

Children Can Benefit From Meditation and Relaxation Too
December 5, 2009 by Keira Adams

Taking a period of time to collect your feelings before or after a long day of activities is something most folks should do, but often don’t seem to be able to manage. Teaching yourself some guidelines for meditation and relaxation will help you to organize your thoughts during your busy day, and after you enjoy the rewards of meditation, you may wish to show them to your kids. Here are a few of the best ways to present meditation and relaxation in a fashion that your children will understand.
The first thing you should do is ask your child to lay down. He or she can do these meditation exercises on the bed or on a small scale yoga mat. Your child should lie with their arms placed comfortably along their sides, and their legs in a relaxed position. You should make clear to your child that meditation and relaxation is for soothing the body and mind, and then you can demonstrate some breathing exercises to give your child an illustration of how meditation should be carried out.
Your child should appreciate that these ‘meditation lessons’ with you can help them to be more contented at school, and will even help them to have better mental capacity to solve problems that arise. You can start making use of visualization for your meditation and relaxation at this stage. For starters, you can have your child imagine themselves lying on their back in a meadow full of flowers. Request your little one to close their eyes while you count to ten. This will assist them to concentrate on their breath so that they can enhance their circulation and get more settled.
Subsequent to engaging in some of these relaxation sessions, you can convince your kids to count to ten on their own. The more mature your kids are, the more they will be able to concentrate on exhaling with one count and inhaling with the next. Ask your children how meditation and relaxation makes them feel. Do your kids feel drowsy? Do they feel less hyper? Listen to the descriptions that your kids are offering you. If they are experiencing lightheadedness or are uncomfortable, reposition them to a better space so that they can experiment with different meditation poses.
Close your child’s meditation and relaxation exercises by asking them to open their eyes slowly. Subsequently, they can stretch and start to sit up. At the conclusion of the meditation, they should feel much more tranquil and rested. You will notice that your children are considerably more well-behaved, and may have improved social skills as a result of habitual meditation.
There are so many benefits to learning to meditate that it’s surprising more people don’t take up this rewarding pastime. It certainly doesn’t have to be difficult, either, because there are lots of easy meditation techniques you can learn.
