Having A Baby At Home

Delivering a baby is a wonderful experience. Although it is wonderful there are many pains and stresses that come with delivering a baby. Simply because of that most of the babies are usually delivered in the hospital.

But there is absolutely a growing movement of women having babies at home. And contrary to the most popular opinion, it is in fact safer than most people would imagine. So in this article we are going to examine the issues regarding delivering your baby at home.

First of all when a woman just chooses to have a baby at home, then it is usually performed by a midwife. Midwives are actually women who really assist in delivering the baby. Much like a doctor\’s role except in the big fact that they really stress the importance of delivering the baby in a natural way. That is one of the main reasons women come to me in my midwife services. They definitely want to have a baby even without using drugs during delivery.

Now the common thought is that women always use drugs for delivery to ease the pain. But in reality, what most women actually don\’t realize is that using drugs basically slow down the birth process. And a lot of times it even makes it harder to deliver the baby. While a home birth sometimes simply uses the known option of delivering in water in order to make the transition for the baby. This method or process of child delivery is called a water birth. That is one of the big ways to deliver in my water birth services.

Finally most people believe that it is definitely not safe to deliver a baby at home simply because there isn\’t a doctor present. But that is actually not the case. Most of the women who do midwifery are actually medically trained and surely understand what to do in cases of an emergency. Most are licensed like the women in my licensed midwife service. This licensing requires a board to oversee their work and knowledge.

So hopefully you can see that indeed, having a baby at home isn\’t as real dangerous as many people think. If you are pregnant it is an option that might be wonderful for you.

How To Naturally Conceive A Baby Boy

January 7, 2010 by Brett Fernandez

Many tips for successfully conceiving a baby boy are available online and also written in many books and guides. These guidelines and tips are all proven scientifically. They are not based on old customs and beliefs. In spite of that, there is no way anybody can guarantee the birth of a boy. But a couple can increase the chances of conceiving a baby boy for sure. For successfully giving birth to a boy, one must be aware of all aspects of the process known as conception.

Many guides describe that for a healthy boy to be born, the environment of the mother should be alkaline. Acidic nature of environment may prove fatal to the foetus. Also the male sperm can blossom and grow in alkaline conditions.

Scientifically, the more acidic part of any woman\’s vagina is the entrance. The alkaline environment exists near its cervix. Hence, a deeper way of lovemaking is suggested by doctors for those couples who are wishing and trying for a boy. The behavior of the male sperm generally determines the gender of the baby. This fact has been scientifically proven. The male sperm is smaller in size than the female sperm. But it moves with greater speed than the female one. Also the female sperm has a longer life than its male equivalent. Hence, lovemaking is advised as close as possible to the day of ovulation. That increases the chances of a boy. The reasons for that are, as the egg is waiting to ovulate, the male sperms, which are faster than the female ones, will reach the egg and completely avoid the female sperms.

If it is done before the ovulation period starts, the chances of a baby boy decrease greatly. To know when a woman\’s ovulation period starts, one can refer to the ovulation prediction kits. They include calendars and tips to what one should do on specific days. The gynecologists and hospitals can provide couples with these tips. The calendars are also found on the internet.

Maintaining a healthy diet is the key to success. Generally intake of proteins and potassium is advised by doctors and health experts too. It is also believed that continuing the daily routine can help. Also intake of calories is necessary and can increase the chances. Daily exercise helps a woman\’s body to be fit and ready for pregnancy. For the baby to be healthy, the mother, who acts as the host, should be strong and healthy.

In Vitro Fertilization Explained

December 16, 2009 by Gareth Bale

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a method of assisted reproduction that offers couples who are infertile an opportunity to have a baby who is biologically related to them.

With IVF, a man’s sperm and the woman’s egg are brought together by an IVF specialist in a laboratory dish, where fertilization occurs. The resulting embryo is then put into the uterus (womb) of the woman and left to naturally develop. Typically, 3 or 4 embryos are placed in the woman’s uterus each time. Each attempt at this is called a cycle, with the cost of each cycle being around $12,000.

Here are some more details of what exactly is involved in each cycle…

The woman may be given hormones in order to induce her ovaries to produce a number (5+) eggs. A surgeon then inserts a needle into the woman’s ovary to remove the eggs. Whilst that is taking place, a semen sample is taken from the man. The sperm are separated from the semen in a laboratory procedure.

Following this, the sperm are combined in a laboratory dish with the eggs. Around 20 hours after this fertilization procedure, the laboratory dish is examined to determine if the egg or eggs have been fertilized and have begun to grow as embryos. Should this have happened, they are incubated and observed for the next 2-5 days. After that time, the embryos will be transferred back to the woman through the cervix with a catheter (a long slender tube). The woman is then given certain hormones for the following 2 weeks.

The pregnancy success rate of the IVF procedure is 36% among women younger than 35 years, 28% for those between 36-39 years, and 13% in those older than 40 years. Therefore, the final cost of IVF is generally more than $20,000, as the odds are against a couple suceeding at their first attempt.

Which Prenatal Vitamins Should I Take?

December 14, 2009 by Natasha Marryat

Pregnancy is one of the most important events a woman has to go through. In fact, when a woman gets pregnant, it is always viewed as something which is exciting and thrilling. In short, it is something that is always looked forward to. But in spite of the thrill and excitement, one cannot help but ask oneself, “Is taking medicine dangerous for pregnant women?” “Is it always recommended to take prenatal vitamins?” “Does it have any side effects?”

For many experts, women who are found to have been taking prenatal vitamins are discovered to be healthier and it also proved to have the same effect on their child while still in the mother’s womb. If you are thinking that eating the right kinds of food is already enough, you’d better think twice.

Many fertility experts recommend that if possible, pregnant women should not limit themselves in eating foods only. It is also advised that women should take prenatal vitamins. This is not to replace the nutrients, but instead, supplement the other nutrients present inside the body.

Folic acid is one of the most important prenatal vitamin a pregnant woman has to take. This vitamin, which is a member of the B family helps for a strong pregnancy and healthy fetal development. This vitamin is important is reducing the risk of birth and neural tube defects. Example of a neural tube defect is spina bifida which is the most common. It is then recommended that women should take folic acid even before pregnancy. The required folic acid intake is 200 micrograms (mcg).

Two separate studies in 1991 and 1996 found out that folic acid can help prevent neural tube defects, urinary tract and cardiovascular defects. Deficiency folic acid will lead to low birth weight and increased incidence of neural tube defects.

Another necessary prenatal vitamin is iron. Iron is the main component of hemoglobin which is the part of the blood that carries oxygen. Thus, iron is important in the transportation of oxygen in the body of the pregnant woman and that of the unborn child. Iron enhances the baby’s healthy growth and helps the mother maintain a healthy body as she gives birth to a baby.

The third recommended prenatal vitamin is Vitamin A. Again, Vitamin A is important for healthy embryonic development, cellular and tissue growth. It also helps in the development of other parts in the body such as our eyes, hearts, skin and our mucous membranes. More importantly, Vitamin A helps us fight infections and repair damaged tissues. It also helps with lactation to replace that lost in breastfeeding.

Thus, intake of prenatal vitamins is truly essential for women not only during pregnancy but onwards. And what’s best about it is knowing that you have also imparted a healthy life to your child.
